Recertification Guidelines for CPCS

Recertification is required every 3 years from the date a CPCS becomes certified in order to continue providing Clinical Supervision using the CPCS credential.

RECERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Recertification is REQUIRED every three (3) years on the anniversary (month/day) of the most recent certification date.
  • Annual Maintenance Fee is paid each year on the anniversary date. There will be a late fee payment due, if not paid within 30 days of anniversary date.
    NOTE: The maintenance fee is included in the Recertification Fee every 3rd year.
  • Nonpayment of fee(s) will result in a 'pending' status of certification.
  • Completion of 12 hours of approved CE training/workshops Synchronous Only
      • 5 or 6 CE hours in Documentation/Ethics,
      • 5 or 6 CE hours in other Supervision Topics of your choosing, and
      • 1 CE hour for passing the Exam 
  • Recertification application requires you to provide the Number of Supervisees per Year, (if applicable).
  • Take and pass Recertification Exam with score of 85% or better.

  • All CE workshops/training must be approved by LPCAGA or have the CCALP Provider Number.*
  • Completion of Audit, if applicable.
  • Must maintain Georgia LPC licensure in good standing and compliance with the Code of Ethics.

All CE workshops/training must be approved by LPCAGA or have a CCALP Provider Number to comply with GA Rule 135-9.   Any hours from conferences must be verified by an affidavit.  



AUDITS: CPCS Program performs audits randomly to ensure certification holders are abiding by the rules stipulated for the CPCS program.

IMPORTANT NOTICES

ETHICAL COMPLIANCE

    • If a supervisor complaint(s) is received, resolution must be complete prior to recertification.
    • Resolution may require additional Ethical Supervision training.
    • Three (3) valid complaints may lead to loss of CPCS certification.

CPCS Certification Maintenance Fees
Fees support the administration of the certification program; which also includes monthly reports to the Licensing Board regarding compliance, answering and resolving supervision questions/issues, and audits. And most important, consultations.

FAILURE TO RECERTIFY
Failure to submit the signed recertification attestation, payment, and any requested continuing education documentation by the expiration date on your certificate will result in expiration of your credential.

OPTIONAL
If you are not actively supervising, you can always put your CPCS on inactive status.

STEP 1 - Complete the Required Training

You will need a total of 12 CE hours to recertify.

Documentation and Ethics required  (5 or 6 CE hours)

Topics include: 

  • Update on the laws and rules, strongly suggested
  • Update on documentation including applications, session notes, evaluations, etc.

Plus 5 or 6 CE hours in other Supervision topics of your choosing:

 > Implementation of Supervision, topics include:

  • Methods / Foundations of Supervision
  • Telehealth Techniques, etc.

 > Case Scenarios, topics include:

  • Provide an outline of your own individual plan for clinical supervision.
  • Role play, managing difficult supervisees, unusual situations, board complaints, etc.

 > Workshops*, Choose any workshop that you feel will make you a better Supervisor. Could be any of the following:

  • Business, Legal, Law, HIPAA
  • Workshop on Supportive Supervisory Relationship
  • Difficult Feedback or Boundary Setting
  • Is client safety ensured?
  • Self-care
  • And of course, documentation all LPCs need to know
  • Addiction Supervision Workshops (not accepted)
* Be sure to check the Unrecognized CE Providers page to ensure your CE's will count toward your Recertification.

STEP 2 - Take the CPCS Exam

You will receive 1 CE hour for passing the Exam.

  • Take and pass the exam with a score of  85% or better.
  • The exam is open book and untimed.
  • You may take the exam up to three times (after the 3rd attempt, you will be required to take LPCA's prep course).

STEP 3 - Recertification Application

  • Complete the Recertification Application, 
  • Gather your Supervision CE Certificates, and
  • Have ready the number of Supervisees you had per year.
