CPCS Re-Certification

NOT OPEN until Summer 2024

We will email you when the committee is ready to accept Re-Certification.

Recertification is required every 3 years from the date a CPCS becomes certified, in order to continue providing Clinical Supervision and using the CPCS credential.

Recertification Requirements:

    • Recertification is every three (3) years on the anniversary (month/day of initial certification) date
    • Annual Maintenance Fee paid each year, on anniversary date (yearly)
    • Late fee payment due, if not paid within 30 days of anniversary date
    • Nonpayment of fee(s) will result in pending status of certification
    • Completion of 12 hours of  APPROVED CE training/workshops*  Synchronous ONLY
    • Recertification application will require; "How many supervisees do you have per year?"(If applicable)
    • Take and pass Recertification Exam with score of 85% or better
    • Must maintain Georgia LPC licensure in good standing and compliance with the Code of Ethics
    • *All CE *workshops/training must be approved by LPCAGA or have a CCALP Provider Number to comply with Rule 135-9

STEP 1 - Required Training  (Total of 12 CE Hours; 5 or 6 CE hours in Ethics, 5 or 6 CE hours is other Supervision Topics of your choosing, and 1 CE hour for passing the Exam = 12)

REQUIRED: Documentation and Ethics (5 or 6 CE Hours): This content area includes:

  • Update of the law and rules- STRONGLY SUGGESTED
  • Update on documentation including applications, session notes, evaluations, etc.

SUGGESTED CONTENT AREAS FOR RECERTIFICATION: 

Implementation of Supervision (5 or 6 CE Hours): This content area includes:

  • Methods / Foundations of supervision, telehealth techniques, etc.
  • Case scenarios

Case Scenarios (5 or 6 CE Hours): This content area includes:

  • Each attendee will provide an outline of their own individual plan for clinical supervision
  • Case scenarios/role plays, managing difficult supervisees, unusual situations, board complaints, etc.

Any workshop that you think will make you a better Supervisor (5 or 6 CE Hours ): The content area could be any of the following:

  • Business/ legal/law/HIPAA
  • Workshop on supportive supervisory relationship
  • Difficult feedback or boundary setting
  • Is client safety ensured?
  • Self-care
  • And of course, documentation all LPCs need to know

**Be sure to check the Unrecognized CE Providers to ensure your CE's will count toward your Recertification.**

    STEP 2 - The CPCS Exam  ( 1 CE )

      • Take and pass the Exam
      • A score of at least 85%
      • OPEN BOOK and Untimed
      • May take up to three times (LPCA prep course required after 3 attempts)

    STEP 3 - Complete the Recertification Application 

      • Fill out the Re-certification Application
      • Gather your Supervision CE Certificates
      • Gather your list of  the number Supervisees you had per year.  Just the number, for report to the Licensing Board



    AUDITS:  CPCS Program performs audits randomly to ensure certification holders are abiding by the rules stipulated for the CPCS program.

    ETHICAL COMPLIANCE

      • If a supervisor complaint(s) is received, resolution must be complete prior to recertification
      • Resolution may require additional Ethical Supervision training
      • Three (3) valid complaints may lead to loss of CPCS certification

    CPCS Certification Maintenance Fees support the administration of the certification program; which also includes monthly reports to the Licensing Board regarding compliance, answering and resolving supervision questions/issues, and audits. And most important, consultations.

    FAILURE TO RECERTIFY: Failure to submit the signed recertification attestation, payment, and any requested continuing education documentation by the expiration date on your certificate will result in expiration of your credential.
